U16 Netball team triumph at Ann Smart Final

The U16s had a busy week of fixtures starting on Monday (23 January 2012), when they faced Eirias High School in their final league match. This was a nail biting game, with the Eirias team taking an early lead. Rydal Penrhos had to work hard to regain the lead, with the game going end for end. It was not until the final minutes of the game that the U16s secured the game, 25-23 and gained qualification for the Conwy U16 Ann Smart Final.

The final took place on Wednesday (25 January 2012) where the U16s faced Dyffryn Conwy and Bryn Elian.

Rydal Penrhos celebrated a 27-0 win over Dyffryn Conwy; however the Bryn Elian team were fierce competitors. Taking an early lead, Rydal Penrhos settled into a fluent pattern of play but Bryn Elian played well defensively and pulled the score back to 7-8 at half time.

The second half saw Bryn Elian continue to dominate the game but, with focus and determination, Rydal Penrhos started to pull the score back with some excellent shooting by Beth Mather and Hannah Cashell. The final score of 15-12 resulted in Rydal Penrhos being declared the Conwy U16 Champions.

To finish their busy week, the U16 team faced a team from St Edward’s College (away). Once again Rydal Penrhos produced some excellent netball with fantastic attacking and defensive play by all team members. With both teams evenly matched, the game went goal for goal and the final score was 20-20.

Congratulations to everyone who and good luck for the Eryri Final on 10 February 2012.
