Sixth form pupils carry out conservation work

Sixth form pupils from Rydal Penrhos School volunteered to spend a weekday afternoon supporting the Snowdonia Society’s campaign to tidy and maintain the grounds of Capel Curig’s Community Centre.

The Centre – formerly a primary school – has been refurbished to provide it with a new lease of life as a venue for hire and for community purposes. The centre stands in an old hard standing play area, which is surrounded by a beautiful stone boundary wall, however it has become obscured by a raised area at the rear of the plot which has become overgrown.

The eight pupils from Rydal Penrhos Sixth form; Tiger Chen, Ken Ngai, Lily Rae, Ellen Carnegie Wuster, Laura Nunez-Mulder, Jaime Chan, Annabel Large and Natalia Holgate were put to hard work as soon as they arrived, helping to clear the overgrown land and maintaining the grounds of the centre.

The effort proved worthwhile with pupils able to make significant progress in clearing the obstructions during the afternoon.

Sixth form pupils at Rydal Penrhos School are encouraged to get involved with projects such as conservation work in order to develop a wider skill set and to increase leadership qualities while also enhancing CVs and boosting university applications.
