Sixth form pupils visit Paris
Trip to Paris 15 – 18 October 2011
A very early start began an exciting few days for eight pupils from Year 13, who along with Mrs Teal and Mrs Proudlove travelled to Paris to explore the city’s art and architecture during half term.
A busy few days began with a visit to the Musee D’Orsay where artwork from Van Gogh, Seurat, Manet and Renoir was showcased in the magnificent setting of the museum, which had formerly been a train station.
Day two began with a trip to Les Pucas, a labyrinth of antique and retro clothing, furniture, accessories and interior shops. After exploring the stalls, lunch was served near the beautiful Sacre Coeur church in Montmartre, with entertainment provided by nearby street players. A short walk from the Sacre Coeur was the Moulin Rouge and its famous red windmill which began an afternoon of sightseeing that ended with an evening trip to the Champs Elysees and the Arc De Triomphe.
Of course no trip to Paris would be complete without visiting the Eiffel Tower and the pupils spent Monday morning at the top of the Tower taking in the stunning views of the city. After finally making it back down again, the group headed to the Louvre museum where some of the most famous pieces of art in the world are on display. After entering through the magnificent glass pyramid, pupils went to view the Mona Lisa and Venus De Milo as well as many other pieces on display in the galleries of the museum.
The final day of the trip saw the group head to the Musee Les Arts Decoratifs which boasts a collection of 150,000 objects by French artists from the Middle Ages to present day. A bit of shopping time followed before the group returned home after an exhausting but wonderful trip to one of the world’s most beautiful cities.
