Saturday 17 September – North Wales Secondary Schools Tennis Finals

After qualifying at the end of the summer term, the U13 and U15 Girls teams and the U13 Boys Team travelled to Wrexham Tennis Centre for the North Wales Secondary Schools Tennis Finals.

A competitive day of tennis awaited the teams, with each team required to play singles and doubles matches against two different schools.

The Under 13 Girls were strong team on the day and secured 5 good wins against the Welshpool High School side, but went on to lose 1 match to 5 against Mold Alun High School later in the day. Team member Ellie Scarff performed exceptionally well, winning all of her singles games. The U13 Girls team came away with second place and gained silver medals.

The Under 15 Girls weren’t quite as successful after facing a strong opposition by St Joseph’s from Wrexham. Only Sophie Cashell was able to secure a win against the opponents. A second gruelling challenge came in the way of Llanfyllin High School who recorded 6-0 victory over the Rydal Penrhos team. The day ended with the team coming in third place.

The U13 Boys were unlucky to lose against Welshpool High School following a knockout draw, which saw equal scores lead to a tiebreak, which was eventually won by the opposition. The team went on to beat Sir Hugh Owen School, Caernarfon and finished in third place overall. Thomas McCloskey successfully won all of his singles matches on the day.
