Special congratulations for the following winning teams:

Head of Maths Dr Rowlands said “thanks to all the students who took part with such enthusiasm and made the week a great success and thanks to the Year 10’s that spent a considerable amount of time designing the tasks and marking them”.

Year 9 have been working very hard preparing for their external examinations, once completed they were set the task of using all their knowledge to complete a mathematical investigation. After much deliberation, the Year 9 Mathematical Investigation Prize has been awarded to Hannah Patrick (9M). Hannah’s work will be displayed in the Maths Department and we strongly recommend that you read the reasons and justification for her calculations, they are hilarious!

Year 12 Further Mathematicians worked exceptionally hard completing their A Level Mathematics in one year. At the end of examinations they were asked to complete a Mathematical Investigation in pairs and were a great success. It was extremely difficult to decide on a winner, but after much thought, the Year 12 Mathematics Investigation and Presentation Prize this year goes to Michelle Tan and Beth Stevens for their “Minimising the Amount of Metal Used to make a Coke Can” investigation that will be displayed in the Maths Department alongside others.

However, Nick Bellamy and Tony Chu’s presentation will be displayed in the safety of the Maths office to avoid over-excitement in the Maths corridor.
