Year 9 pupils awarded top prizes in Biology competition
Pupils in Year 9 at Rydal Penrhos were among 20 000 UK students who took part in a national Biology challenge this week, picking up top prizes.
The Society of Biology’s ‘Biology Challenge’ is a widely-accessible competition set up for pre-Sixth form students.
The challenge involved the Rydal Penrhos pupils being asked a series of questions based on the Science curriculum, but rewarding those whose knowledge of Biology has been increased by reading books and magazines, watching natural history programmes and taking notice of the news media for items of biological interest.
The challenge is aimed at encouraging pupils in their interest in biology before they make their crucial choice of subjects to study post-GCSE.
The Colwyn Bay Year 9 pupils were up against UK students in Years 10 and 11, but were awarded with Gold, Silver and Bronze certificates for their superb results. Bronze certificates went to Sian Stanworth and Eve Davies; Silver to John Marston, Hannah Patrick, Dylan Coombes and Robert Warrington; and Gold was awarded to Glen Davies.
