Girls hockey enjoys great results at the start of the season
Monday 6 September 2010 – hockey match reports
Saturday 4 September – U15 girls v St Edward’s, Liverpool (home)
The U15s got their hockey season off to an excellent start after taking ten minutes to settle into the game. Rydal Penrhos started to create numerous goal scoring opportunities, until Sophie Cashell dribbled the ball past the defence and struck the ball at the top of the D, sending it into the corner straight past the keeper. This was followed by Beth Cotterell securing the second goal just before half time.
St Edwards worked hard and made life difficult in the second half, but the girls just worked that little bit harder and were rewarded for their efforts in the final seconds with another excellent finish by Hannah Davies.
Saturday 4 September – 1st XI girls v St Edward’s, Liverpool (home)
The 1st XI began the season in promising fashion against St Edward’s, Liverpool. On a hot and sultry morning, the use of the full squad allowed a number of players to make debuts, but the team was cohesive and fluent for much of the match.
A hat-trick from Lydia Parry, and a further goal from Anna Stevenson secured the victory, which could have been even greater but for a fine display by the goal keeper.
There remains a lot of work to be done, especially in team defence, but this will arrive with greater fitness as the season progresses.
