Cricket results v Wrekin College
After a poor bowling performance against St Anselm’s College last Wednesday when we lost, the 1st XI bowlers performed much better on Saturday.
Both Michael Kitchen and Dan Parry bowled well, posing problems for the batsmen, but enjoyed little luck and the opposition posted a total of 194 from their 35 overs. Unlike Wednesday it was our batting that caused concern, with no batsman managing to get to grips with two very good spin bowlers who took 8 wickets between them. The Under 12, 13 and 14s all playing their first game of the season had mixed fortunes.
The Under 12s, with some boys playing their first ever game of cricket, played with spirit and perserverance but fell well short of the visitors’ total of 144 for 5 with 6 overs of the game remaining.
The Under 13s, after seeing Wrekin set a target of 143, started their innings well but were short of the target. They did, however, hold on for a draw.
The game at U14 level was quite closely contested. Sean Kitchen, Oli Bull and Robert Ellerby all contributed to the total of 80. However, the steady bowling of Matthew Thomas 2 for 10 and Adam Sugarman 2-14 always proved threatening, but the visitors batted with composure and maturity to pass our total with two wickets remaining.
