The Religious Studies department at Rydal Penrhos School is one that aims to provide knowledge, understanding and evaluation of many aspects of religion, spirituality, philosophy and morality.
Why study Religious Studies?
We aim to introduce pupils to the challenging and varied nature of religion, and to the ways in which this is reflected in experience, belief and practice. This helps pupils to identify and explore questions about the meaning of life, and to consider such questions in relation to religious traditions.
"...understanding the relevance of religious teaching for life in the 21st century."
Pupils will be encouraged to express their own reasoned views about the issues discussed, whilst developing respect and sensitivity towards others and their beliefs and values.
Religious Studies is taught to all pupils in Key Stage 3 and is a core subject at GCSE level, except for those who do not have English as their first language. At A-level we offer Religious Studies – Philosophy & Ethics; Buddhism. A number of pupils go on to read Theology or Philosophy at university.
The department has three classrooms with access to fully equipped computer rooms that are Internet enabled. These resources are combined with up-to-date textbooks, a well-stocked Learning Resource Centre, contacts with the local community religious traditions and visits further afield to further enhance learning.
